I was at my normal bus stop at 7:30 p.m., and I got to speak with a young man regarding the police. I listed the "little laws" that the cops refuse to write tickets on these days, and he said, "Naw, they don't care about those little things. They're out there catching the robbers and murderers. They only care about theft and murder. Even drugs won't get you busted, if you're smart about it."
Okay, so do I take this to mean rape would constitute a "little crime" that the cops don't pursue?
And next, if the cops aren't really enforcing anti-drug laws that the Federal government penned, then the dreaded "Big Brother" is quite dead folks. What's the Congress, President, or the Supreme Court going to do if someone sees you staggering down the street with a joint dangling from your lips? Are they just going to sit there and scowl disapprovingly? They're sure not going to risk their necks trying to arrest someone doped up on PCP.
As for the "catching robbers and murderers," a gentleman I spoke with yesterday would disagree. He used to manage a convenience store. One time, he called the police because one of the customers was making verbal threats. Almost half an hour later, after the event had calmed down, the cops showed up terrified and with guns drawn.
Thing is, the cops need to be put on unemployment. They don't do the tasks that they were supposedly trained to do, therefore they shouldn't be paid.
So remember the next time you have a "paranoid moment" over the camera at the street corner, or the security cameras in a retail store: no one's watching but an average schmoe security guard. The cops probably won't even get involved that much, if at all. And if the local cops aren't involved, then why worry about "Big Brother" carting you off to a detention center in Cuba or something?
Congrats, Farmers Branch, TX, you're well on your way to being a ghetto. So is America as a whole, at this rate.
