I went there with my friend, you know, the one that has Homeland Security clearance.
I was hoping that they'd release the gun so I could let her hang onto it. The weapon would be more secure where she lives, rather than with me in the apartment. Besides, if someone did manage to break in, I can bean them on the head with the baseball bat and not have to worry about harming innocents. And I've not had any fresh fingerprints since cleaning the windows, so my personal "threat alert" has gone down ("threat alert" in terms of feeling like my life and/or home is in danger).
Well, we waited for a little bit and were told to give the manager over the property department a call Monday. The whole property department was in school and none will be back until Monday, from the sound of it. I find it plausible, although my skepticism isn't "buying it" completely.
It's an improvement from "We're holding onto it pending a criminal investigation into you being a TERRORIST!" But my desire to regain my property (even if it's just long enough to give the gun to my friend) is based more on practicality, and principle, not fear. When I voluntarily surrendered the firearm on September 27, 2013, I was told SPECIFICALLY that it wasn't being held as evidence, that I could come by September 30, 2013 and reclaim it.
The principle: It's my rightful property that I VOLUNTARILY surrendered. I was lied to and intimidated (most likely an effort to dissuade me from blogging, as if that was very effective) on October 11, 2013. So on principle, I simply refuse to "reward" FBPD with a "free gun" that is common to their department.
As for the practicality, I would like to have it back in case I have to sell it at a pawn shop. Now if FBPD were willing to pay me more than some pawn shop, and they approached me with the offer, I may be inclined to accept.
But I refuse to lose it through "but she didn't claim it, so it's ours" nonsense. I've tried claiming it twice now, this time, with a witness. And the blog is my other witness.
So if you're reading this, FBPD, please do the right thing for once.
Just stop jerking me around.
